Learning Technologies

St Paul's has a strong view on the importance of technology in the role of the education of its students. We see this as one of a number of key ingredients that support students in the learning process. As such, the presence and effective use of Information, Communication and Learning Technologies (ICLT) enhance learning in every classroom within the school and support students' learning experiences.

We value the constant improvement of our facilities and technology to ensure our students have access to the best possible education. The St Paul’s teaching community also aims to develop responsible and ethical digital citizens who are proficient in their use of technology and who use technology in a respectful, responsible and safe manner. This is achieved through:

  • Integration of technology authentically across all Key Learning Areas
  • Promotion of the strong command of information technologies, with a focus on digital citizenship
  • Facilitation of collaborative learning experiences via the Google Apps for Education suite and other digital learning platforms
  • Involvement of parents through the utilisation of electronic forms of communication such as compass, school website, electronic newsletters, emails and Facebook
  • The embedding of opportunities and experiences for students to engage and learn with a variety of technological devices and learning tools
  • The creation of an e-learning culture, based on the understanding that technologies play a key role and are fundamental to the preparation and implementation of learning, teaching and assessment opportunities for students and the personal and professional growth and development of staff.

St Paul's aims to provide contemporary quality learning environments for students through the integration of technology across all Key Learning Areas. As part of this process, we are implementing a 1:1 iPad Program for our Years 5 and 6 students. iPads are used in a range of learning spaces, allowing students the opportunity to achieve desired learning outcomes in ways that are not always possible using traditional methods.

Our students also complete the eSmart Digital Licence online safety program to ensure they are aware of the current and changing online risks associated with this technology.

Oliver is our school’s Library Management System. It is fully web-based, so the whole school community can access library resources including eBooks and Audiobooks. Simple, clear search options like dynamic picture searches help young students find books and other resources that appeal to them. They can also choose from a huge selection of background graphics and avatars to personalise their library experience.

Oliver means students and staff can also manage their loans and reservations — anywhere, anytime.

Digital citizenship is a priority at St Paul's, with all students participating in learning experiences that focus on being responsible and ethical users of technology.

Teachers use a range of resources developed by the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong, the Office of the eSafety Commissioner and other online safety organisations, to assist in the ongoing education of our students in being safe and responsible digital citizens.
